Flute,Piano - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1025532 Composed by Douglas Knehans. Contemporary. Score and part. 68 pages. Armadillo Edition #4823081. Published by Armadillo Edition (A0.1025532). **** ...wonderfully orchestrated... dynamic and endlessly evolving...-BBC Music MagazineTempest is a flute concerto and takes its idea from the movement of the wind around the world, and the 'deeper aspects of the human condition, the human experience, thought, reflection, psychology and emotion'. The turbulent opening is immediately arresting. and one can imagine the swirling wind flowing around powerfully. Pulsing rhythms and captivating brass lines reinforce this sense of power, before the mood breaks into a more gentle duo moment for flute and harp. Knehans' orchestration is imaginative and full of colour, making effective use of different timbral combinations and creating a transparency of texture through the use of solo lines from around the orchestra. The flute part is dazzling and takes centre stage with a sense of charismatic virtuosity. Challenging and exhilarating throughout, the first movement has the sort of energy one might associate with the opening movement of the lbert concerto, but intensified and developed to reflect the 21st century flute and the modem world. The second movement has a greater sense of stillness, and the flute line weaves around relatively static strings, low woodwind. Despite the stillness, an underlying intensity gives the music a brooding feel; this is music that deals with profound ideas, and as such, it is vital that the music, too, has depth. Knehans has achieved this convincingly; this is a piece which demands attention and holds you in its spell. The final movement is full of rhythmic punchiness and fantastic orchestral energy. The scoring is once again highly imaginative, making use of bassoons and low brass in pounding rhythms punctuated by the strings. Over all of this, (flutist) Gareth Davies astonishes and dazzles; displaying not only a phenomenal technique but also a magnetic energy and charisma which is spellbinding . I would not be exaggerating to say that this is one of the best flute recordings I have heard for a long time.An impressively vibrant compositional voice. Unmissable.Carla Rees-Pan The Official Journal of the British Flute Society

Concerto for Trombone and Piano

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.811191 Composed by Mark Narins. 20th Century,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and part. 101 pages. Gordon Cherry #6069485. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811191). Cherry Classics is pleased to introduce Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra 2020 (Piano reduction) by San Francisco based composer/conductor Mark Narins. The concerto is in 4 movements: I. Prayer, II. Meditation, III. Call and Response, IV. Exaltation Here is a description of the work by Mark Narins, the composer: Prayer: The first movement starts with a shimmering tremolo in the strings over which the silver voice of the trombone plays an arching phrase that lingers on an extended appoggiatura. The trombone is a lone mystic reaching for the sky and then falling perilously down to the pedal register. Later the orchestra breaks into a frenetic vamp over which the trombone plays intense ascending scales and passage work. The movement ends with an ascent to a high C#, moving to a final ringing high C. Meditation: After the harp lays out a series of arpeggiated chords, the trombone plays a warm, rich theme in the middle range. The following episodes are variations on this theme. The trombone moves into the upper register, floating with the ease of a lead trombone in a big band. The movement ends with an ascending yearning phrase reaching a high D as the soloist touches the sky and then comes gently back to earth. Call and Response: The orchestral accompaniment starts in an anxious, mysterious tonality. The trombone enters with a burst of energy playing a machine gun series of Fs. The movement develops into a series of short brilliant solo passages answered boldly by the orchestra. This movement showcases the stunning declamatory powers of the trombone. Exaltation: Movement 4 starts as an allegro with intense tremolos in the basses. The trombone breaks out into an articulated driving theme followed by several extended melodic passages. Midway in the movement the strings abruptly lay out a syncopated Latin dance rhythm over which the trombone climbs from the bottom to the top of its range in rapid triplets. In the final codetta the trombone accelerates the dance tempo and climaxes on a series of high C#s in a brilliant and joyous fashion. The concerto is 27 minutes in duration and is appropriate for advanced performers. This version with Piano is a reduction of the full Orchestral version (to be published in the near future). The new Trombone Concerto by Mark Narins is a very exciting piece with dramatic contrasts between the slow and fast sections. The move to the finish of the piece makes for a great wrap-up. It's a real blow for the player, really exploring the range of the instrument. It will be demanding and fun for the trombonist. Ken Andresen, New York freelance musician

Violin and string orchestra - difficult - Digital Download SKU: S9.Q16384 Fantasy for Violin and String Orchestra. Composed by Peteris Vasks. This edition: piano reduction with solo part. Violin Library. Downloadable, Piano reduction with solo part. Duration 24 minutes. Schott Music - Digital #Q16384. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q16384). 'Vox amoris', apart from 'Tala gaisma' (Distant Light), is Vasks' second violin concerto with string orchestra accompaniment. The world premiere of this Fantasia per violino ed archi, as Vasks calls this one-movement work, took place in Sydney. The composer says about his piece: 'It is about the greatest power in the whole world - love. Love is, was and will be as long as we will be. I believe that solo violin and string orchestra is the best combination for a ‘love story’.' For study purposes, Schott has now published the piano reduction of the concerto with solo part.

Largo al factotum (Figaro's aria) from Il barbiere di Siviglia - Accessible Accompaniments Edition
Baritone Horn TC,Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1176334 Comp…
(+)
Baritone Horn TC,Vocal Solo,Voice - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1176334 Composed by Gioachino Rossini. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. 19th Century,Classical,Opera,Romantic Period. 13 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #776458. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.1176334). The first of its kind, this is a genuinely playable piano/vocal reduction of Largo al factotum,†the show-stopping first aria from Gioachino Rossini’s famous opera Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville). Most reductions of this aria pose a physical hazard to audition and other collaborative pianists who risk injury by trying to grab every fast repeated note and chord in this extremely long aria, nor do the repeated notes tend to come out properly or sound right on pianos compared to the string instruments for which they were written. With this reduction—which was specifically created to be more ergonomic at the piano and safer to get through on long audition-playing days—pianists may now enjoy playing this aria comfortably, without risking strain/injury. However, it’ll still be a tour de force for the baritone!Note that this score does not make any cuts to the aria; therefore, it is also suitable for recital settings without time limits. All Accessible Accompaniments, including this one, boast several unique features:1. No reduction ever requires stretches of over an octave, not including bass notes meant to be held or “fudged†with the pedal (though octaves may also contain chord tones within them). This reduces the amount of rearranging that smaller-handed pianists must already do. Obviously, further reworkings are to be expected and pianists should feel free to add to or modify what I’ve provided.2. I’ve included less essential, but potentially desirable additional voices/passages in cue-size noteheads so that pianists can easily see them, but know that they are not necessary in a “sink or swim†accompanying situation. Presenting less essential material in cue-size noteheads also reduces visual clutter on the page. 3. In addition to the composer’s markings, when needed, I have included hints on particular notes to bring out when the singer is likely to need them as a pitch anchor or when it is not obvious which line should be brought out within the texture.4. All page turns have been carefully selected so as to result in the least possible disruption to the pianist when possible. 5. When known, I’ve noted alternate cuts that singers might like to take within certain arias. 6. In some cases I’ve modernized spelling conventions for easier readability (for example, by replacing “߆with “ss†in German arias) and occasionally I've enharmonically respelled brief passages for greater clarity. I’ve also replaced some text “cresc.†and “dim.†markings with hairpins, which are easier to see in high-pressure sight-reading situations. About the Arranger: Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo enjoys a multifaceted career as a sought-after collaborative pianist, educational composer, arranger, coach, private teacher, and adjunct music professor.
